Frequently Asked Questions
At West Coat Painters, we believe in clear communication and professional execution. Here are the questions we hear most — answered directly by the CEO to give you full clarity and confidence before we start your project.
What happens if it rains during the project?
We track weather closely. If rain hits, we pause, protect all surfaces, and resume only when everything is fully dry and conditions support proper adhesion.
What is the best time of year to paint the exterior?
In the Okanagan, the ideal window is late spring through early fall. With the right products and stable conditions, we can paint outside that window when appropriate.
Do you wash the house before painting?
Yes. A full wash is included to remove dirt, mildew, and debris. A clean surface is essential for durability and long-term performance.
Do you repair rotten wood or damaged siding?
We handle minor repairs, patching, and caulking. For major rot or replacement work, we’ll identify the issue and coordinate with the proper trades before painting.
Can you match an existing color if I don’t know the name?
Yes. We can color-match almost any existing finish using digital tools and manufacturer systems. If you want a new look, we can help choose updated colors.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare the exterior?
Just ensure access around the home — move vehicles, clear items near the walls, and trim major obstructions. We handle everything else, including protection and prep.
Do I need to move my furniture before you start?
No. We move and protect all large furniture for you. You only need to clear personal items or valuables. Everything else is handled by our team.
Will there be strong paint fumes or smells?
Very minimal. We use premium low-VOC products with almost no lingering odor. Proper ventilation keeps your home comfortable throughout the project.
Who will be working in my home?
Only trained, professional in-house painters. No random subs. Our team is insured, screened, and held to strict quality and conduct standards.
Do I need to be home while you paint?
No. Many clients provide access and continue their day. We communicate clearly and lock up securely. Whether you’re home or not, your property is protected.
What do you do with my pets?
We work safely around pets, but we ask they stay in a separate room or controlled space while we’re working. Let us know if they have special routines — we’ll adapt.
How do you handle cleanup?
Daily cleanup is part of our process. Tools are organized, floors are swept, and your home is kept safe and tidy. At completion, we perform a full detailed cleanup.
Can you remove old wallpaper?
No — wallpaper removal is not part of our scope. If needed, a finishing or drywall contractor should handle removal and prep before we begin painting.
Can you work after hours or on weekends to avoid disrupting my business?
Absolutely. We regularly schedule night, evening, and weekend work to keep your operations running without interruption.
How do you minimize disruption to our employees and customers?
We plan ahead, section off work areas, maintain clean and safe walkways, and use low-odor products. Your business stays functional while we work around you.
Do your crews require security clearance or background checks?
Yes. All team members are screened and insured. For facilities requiring additional clearance, we complete all required onboarding or security steps.
Do you work with General Contractors (GCs)?
Yes. We often partner with GCs on commercial builds, TI projects, and renovations. We coordinate with other trades, follow schedules, and maintain strong communication throughout the job.
